Volunteer

I would like to get the word out about green volunteer events via Facebook and Twitter. What I want to know from you is - is this annoying, effective, you don't care, or you'd like to see more? I am starting out by tweeting out a test event - May 15 at Camp Long, and by building an appealing Facebook fan page for Camp Long. If this works for the Camp Long event, I will pass on instructions to forest stewards at other worksites on how to build their own page and/or twitter account. This way, not only will they be able to invite new groups of people, but they will be able to update everyone on the day of an event in case there is a change of time, place or if they are going to be late due to an emergency, etc!

My concerns are that the twitter account will look too spammy. Or is the spammy negated by being for a good cause? Please let me know your feedback!

1. What do you think of the spamminess
2. How likely are you to retweet the invitation?
3. How far in advance would you like to be notified about an event that would make you more likely to come?
4. Any other thoughts/complaints

THANK YOU!

{{{WHY: Here at the Sound Green Blog, we are trying to raise awareness of environmental signals, issues and events in the Puget Sound. I am focusing on trying to raise volunteer attendance at events aimed at restoring the Puget Sound region.

The Green Seattle Partnership has a 20-year plan to restore and maintain urban forests, which are "public assets that beautify and strengthen our local neighborhoods. Not only do they provide recreational opportunities for citizens, they also protect native wildlife habitat, improve air quality, mitigate stormwater runoff, and help keep our cities cool" (via greenseattle.org). The canopy cover that they provide are being threatened by invasive species, which will potentially destroy 80% of that cover which we need for a healthy city.

To make it convenient for Seattleites, the GSP has an awesome
map to find something near you.}}}
